In July 2010, Lebron James left Cleveland in humiliating fashion. At the time, he was regarded as one of the most reviled athletes in the history of Cleveland sports, considered by many to be on a level with Cleveland Browns former owner Art Modell.
PodCAVS followed the Miami Heat career like a lot of other Cavaliers fans and even media, though the lens of contempt. When the Heat lost the 2011 NBA Championship, and even before, many Clevelanders let go of some of the resentment for James behavior both as a Cavalier, in the way he left the team, and in ongoing social media taunts from him to the Cavaliers and their fans.
On July 11, 2014, everything changed. James announced his decision to return to Cleveland and the Cavaliers in a seemingly heartfelt dictated piece to Sports Illustrated. James cites his affection of the Cleveland region and his more recent understanding that his connection to that region trumps what he accomplishes in basketball.
For many Cavaliers fans that remember James by his arrogance his behavior as a Cavalier, this revelation is a game changer in terms of how James is perceived in his return to the Cavaliers. How will Cavs fans perceive him, and what will happen next?
